Jenny Armitage

Hypnosis specialist in severe anxiety

Hello and welcome, I’m Jenny. I’m an Irish mammy, a wife, a sister, a business owner, a therapist, but I’m also a survivor, someone who has lived through years of soul crushing anxiety and come out the other side. Hypnosis and solution-focused therapy were what I needed to break free from the toxic grip of anxiety.

Hypnosis therapy has since become my passion. My mission is to work with adults who are at breaking point, just like I once was, and allow them to feel like themselves again.

There is a myth that change is difficult. In fact, your subconscious is  responsible for up to 90% of your day to day behaviour, so it makes sense to use this to your advantage. Hypnosis removes unhelpful anxieties and give you back the clarity, confidence and happiness you’ve been missing.

Therapy for those who don't like therapy

The beauty of this therapy is how it uses humour, storytelling, hypnosis and neuroscience to bring about change. It’s also a therapy with structure, accountability and guidance to get your mind into a better place.

You won’t be asked to bring up hurtful shameful private feelings or discuss events from your past. That’s not how I operate. So, word to the wise, if you’re not done talking about the problem then go vent to a counsellor, or a friend or surprise a stranger at a bus stop. When you are ready to move on come to me.

Hypnosis... I thought that was just for entertainment.

It’s something I hear a lot. Hypnosis has been used in the medical world for a long long time. It’s even used in Belgium as an alternative to general anaesthetic during operations. It can allow people to stop unwanted habits like smoking quickly, or easily overcome spider phobias.

Hypnosis... how does it work for anxiety?

Severe anxiety is a build up of stress factors. You store them in your mind and in your body. What happens then is your mind gets stuck in a habit of thinking negatively, your body gets stuck in the habit of releasing stress hormones like cortisol, and maybe pain gets stuck too (chronic pain). Believe it or not, this is a self preservation default mode in your system that has gone into overdrive.

Imagine your body has a health and safety officer that is running the show and preventing you from having any fun or enjoyment in your life. We are not going to fire them, we just need them to reign it in a bit.

Because not all fear and anxiety is bad. It is a natural push to better your circumstances, and it stops you from putting your hand into the fire.

Hypnosis brings your anxiety back to a normal healthy level. Hypnosis allows you to change your perceptions, the way you see things. It allows you to let go of unhelpful negative feelings, images, thoughts, emotions or sensations you’ve been holding onto in your mind or body. It creates the headspace for you to effortlessly come up with your own solutions to the obstacles you’re facing in your life.

My clients will often say that they are sleeping better than they’ve ever done, that they have more energy, more confidence in themselves, and no longer fussed by what others may be thinking. That is freedom.

What do I mean by 'severe anxiety'

Some anxiety is normal and helpful. However anxiety can spiral out of control. Severe anxiety is when you find yourself struggling to keep it together, and you’re genuinely afraid of what might happen if you don’t get a handle on it. We can feel on edge, angry, or depressed (or a combination of all three). We can forget what it feels like to laugh. We can obsess over the smallest things. Panic and anxiety attacks can strike us down. Our sleep is usually a mess. We can push away those we care about most because we think they will be better off without us in their lives. Sound familiar to you?
